Hannis Brown is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of music, both in the concert hall and as accompaniment to film in order to achieve maximum psychological and narrative impact.
Currently working with a number of artists, musicians, and directors in New York and Los Angeles, Hannis is becoming known for a unique and versatile compositional voice which pulls from such disparate influences as concert composers Bela Bartok and Penderecki, jazz great Charles Mingus, electronic musicians Aphex Twin and DJ Shadow and film composers Bernard Herrman and Elliot Goldenthal. “Oh Ah Ee,” Hannis’ debut experimental rock album, continues to garner rave reviews and in 2011, he released “Severe Insomnia,” an album of electro-acoustic chamber music. A single for the Lumberton Trading Company label will be released in late spring 2012.
His music has premiered at The Academy of Arts and Sciences, Brooklyn Academy of Music, at WNYC’s Greene Space, and at a growing number of international film festivals as well as on MTV, VH1, ABC, and Italy’s Sky Network cable station. Recent performances include the Pop Montreal 2011 Festival as well as a recent tour of Poland. He holds his M.A. in Composition from New York University.
